Uncompressed files?
Hi, and thanks again for the plugin.
I'm trying to improve my blog's slow page load time. I ran it through the Speed Report tool at WebsiteOptimization.com, and the "Page Objects" section of the results included the following lines: Zitat:
Regarding floatbox.js, I don't know anything about javascript so I don't know what they mean by compression. Maybe you are already aware of these compression/file-size questions. Or maybe I'm worrying about the wrong thing, and the 18kb they say could be trimmed from the floatbox plugin wouldn't make my site load much faster, I don't know. I thought I'd let you know about it, and you can advise me whether it's important enough to bother with. Thanks again for the plugin, I really like it. Derek Los Angeles |

AW: Uncompressed files?
For normal/small pages it isn't necessary to use compressed and/or packed css/jscript-files (in my opinion).
If you still wan't to save some kb, try one of the minifying plugins for wordpress or try to use the compression possibilities of the webserver (i.e. mod_deflate for apache). Another way could be using the precompressed files that are delivered with floatbox (if you wan't to use them, you have to change source code of floatbox plus). |

AW: Uncompressed files?
The speed report tool is greatly exaggerating the potential compression savings that are available. Most of the floatbox files are already minified, except the copyright notices and the editable preferences.
It's not true that you need to change floatbox plus source code to run minified floatbox files. Floatbox ships with only minified files. There is no possibility of running anything else. If you want the best compression, enable your server to serve the gzip versions of the files, included in the floatbox download. There's some info on how to do this in the floatbox instructions. Cheers... ...Byron (floatbox author) |

AW: Uncompressed files?
thx byron for clarification...
(and yes it isn't a good idea to change the source code of floatbox plus for using the gzip compressed files of floatbox, as this wouldn't include the gzipped versions of the modules... the better way is to use the way described in the floatbox instructions or to use mod_deflate on apache gzipping all output (even other css/js/html files)) |
