widget - no thumbnails?

So for some reason, when I add the gallery widget to my sidebar, it shows full-sized images on my newspaper's website, as opposed to thumbnails. Is there an option I should be setting differently?

It's on www.sbpress.com - currently deactivated, considering the problem.

gallery widget depends on the settings of the wordpress media library and uses the thumbnails generated by the media lib... and if for some reason, the thumbnails doesn't exist, the wordpress api delivers the full-sized images...
